Holly Crap Airsoft just got cool

How did these airsoft guys reserve Muscatatuck? I know it is airsoft but that was awesome. Not sure why they were wearing their NVGs instead of having them in a pouch. They are fake and don't weigh very much so what the hell you look cool. Regardless if it is airsoft, I'm sure the same amount of man hours and planning went into this exercise as a Company Live Fire Exercise.   It probably cost a lot of money to participate but it looked like it was worth it.

Who knew airsoft could be so awesome.

Why a Battle Belt Holster

Holster rides high against the IBA
For me my regular holsters have a high draw, which is why they conceal awesome.  But when at the range training or training with all gear necessary for combat, the high draw is a pain, it gets in the way.  When you attach it to a battle belt it still gets in the way.  If you are a big dude like me with long arms, it is a pain.

If you don't have a battle belt yet, you should.  If you get to the range at least once a quarter, it is worth it.  No more trying to fit your holster and magazine carriers into the perfect position in between belt loops.  No more sharing holsters and belts when your so called "training" partners show up in shorts without a belt.  The gear is set, all you do is put on and go.  When it is your turn to be timer man or reset target guy, you can take off your gear and have it back on in an instance.

Battle Belts are awesome, it doesn't matter if you are playing Airsoft or  on an Air Assault mission in the middle of the Hindu Kush.  They work and are convenient.

BB Holster at maximum height. Reg holster at lowest height
One problem is how to attach a regular belt holster (unless you own a VTAC or wait until all companies make one that is similar), and how to adjust the height to clear your gear.  You could go to a thigh holster but wearing a thigh holster while on patrol for 12 hours walking up the most god forsaken mountains on earth sucks bad.

Holster clears an IBA
Left:  Tek-Lok Right: Molle-Lok

My Battle Belt holster is one solution, with 2 adjustable retention points and 3 height adjustments.  It can accommodate any battle belt with either molle-loks or tek-lok.

It is great for a day at the range or on patrol in a far far distant land.

Better Pizza

People love pizza but choices without GMO, processed garbage ingredients and High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) are hard to find. Quick and easy recipe that I use for me.

If you can make your own gluten free fresh pizza dough, do it.  If not, try these alternatives
Rudis Bakery the sandwich flatz work great

1-can Muriglen fire roasted tomatoes  (I like to drain them)
Cheese
Turkey pepperoni
Hot turkey sausage

Take off the skin of the sausage grill then set aside.  Add tomatoes, cheese to dough base and top with toppings of your choice.  Turn oven on to broil and cook until cheese is melted, or place in microwave for 30 seconds.

Tim Kennedy

A couple of my soldiers got the opportunity to train at Tim Kennedy's gym, they had a blast and said he is a total badass.  The sport of MMA definitely needs more people like Tim Kennedy and Junior Dos Santos.  Dudes that are totally hard but don't have to walk around like a dick all day, they don't fake it.  When it's time to kick ass they kick ass but can have fun and laugh at themselves.

Buck Hoodlum

Received a few questions about the Hoodlum sheath, below is a video

Friday, April 20, 2012

Picked up a Buck Hoodlum and Spyderco Persistence (which is awesome), the very instance I held the persistence I knew it rocked.  The blade design is sweet and it feels so good, anyways the Hoodlum rocks, the sheath sucks but just like the 99 extra lives in Contra there is a work around for everything.

Supps

Supplements are great but NOTHING can take the place of knowledge and experience.  You need years of training and diet to finally start to figure out what works, but you can supplant some of the knowledge and experience by talking or READING about what other people have done.  My company is extremely well disciplined, so during the weekly safety brief instead of saying the same boring thing of don’t beat your wife or your dog, I try to get them to change one thing in their lives, like stop watching TV.  Read a book or article that will help improve your life or change your family tree.

If you have young kids that lift weights or play sports you better know who is influencing them, and if they are anything like me when I was young it was the bodybuilding magazines (fake).  Every single bodybuilder is a cheater, they don’t take NO Xplode they take testosterone or steroids.  Why would they take a supplement from GNC when they have pharmaceutical grade testosterone, they wouldn’t.  Luckily the universe did not put me in a position where I could have taken steroids because I probably would have and right now my body chemistry would be jacked up.

If you follow MMA then you know that Allistar Overeem tested positive with a T/E ratio of 14/1.  A normal person is 1/1 and no one is 2/1, so why do professional sports allow 4/1 and Las Vegas 6/1?  What Allistar’s positive test tells me is that he never in a million years thought he would be caught.  The commission and WADA are such jokes that if you do get caught you are an idiot who has levels of 14/1.  Jose Canseco was right 99% of all pro athletes are on the juice, the governmental bodies that regulate the sports allow it.  By allowing athletes to have a T/E ratio of 6/1 they encourage everyone to cheat.

Enough of the cheating rants, people are always going to cheat and nothing is ever going to be done to stop it.

The last time I took a NO Xplode product was during my 1st Tour to Iraq, I was ripped and sent my picture into muscle and fitness and they actually printed it (Frank Mir was on the cover).  I had my yearly physical and my blood pressure was off the charts, when they hooked me up to a machine that gave a printout of my heart beating, the doctor was concerned.  Thus I stopped taking that kind of supplement and have stuck with regular old creatine, protein and caffeine.

Enter the Joe Rogan podcast and a company called Onnit.  Rogan was pimping a product called Shroomtech, developed from the cordyceps mushroom which I was already taking in my green drink.  I listened to information and starting reading up on the ingredients online, one great thing that Onnit does that everyone else doesn’t is they use the best ingredients.  Look at your multi vitamin or anything that contains Vitamin B12 if it says cyanocobalamin it sucks.   Cyanocobalamin is a synthetic form and is cheap; Onnit uses methylocbalamin which cost more because you can’t make it in a lab.  Of course this is debated with the paid shills and government beauracrats telling me there is no difference and both are equal.  The gov/doctors also tells us that french fries qualify as a vegetables during school lunch, high fructose corn syrup and aspartame aren’t bad for you and of course the all-time classic from back in the day when smoking was a common cure for coughs.  Don’t forget adding these death sticks to the daily rations of soldiers.  I wonder if the government promoted smoking in the military because they were bribed by the tobacco industry or to save money on benefits if all the soldiers died in their 50’s.

Anyways’ Shroomtech is awesome it gives me the opposite feeling of my heart racing a million times a minute, I’ve been using it for 60 days and it rocks.  Look into it and stop drinking glorified sugar water known as monsters, unless you want to be THAT” guy who comes to crossfit hopped up on Monsters and Xplode and pukes it all out, what a waste.
Onnit has a lot of codes to save money look around you will find one, if you are feeding your brain information you can be damn sure someone else is.

Bell Mountain

Another awesome backpacking trip before the dreaded ticks invade.  I was able to score a new backpack this winter for a great price, the Osprey Atmos 50. (which if you can find the 2011 verison, is a screaming deal).  The pack works great and I think it looks cool, but the coolest thing I bought was a GSI Outdoors mug and bowl combo.  The nesting concept is great and they worked so great after the hike I bought the micro dualist.

If you are in Missouri, Bell Moutain it is a great hike, the second highest peak in Missouri offers a fantastic view.  The peak has a couple great camp sites and Council Bluff Lakes has a couple.  I was actually surprised that the Ozark Trail has such an awesome website.  You can search different hikes and provides you with fantastic topo maps, Link Here If you can't read a map and go hiking without one, you are asking for a disaster or a spot on the 10 o'clock news.

If you make the peak before sunrise, it has a great place for some yoga.

One casualty on the trip was my ESEE Jungles, the duracoat came right off.  Oh well last time I duracoat a knife that I use.  Probably last time I waste time with an elaborate pattern
The KBAR survived a little better.

I love taking NOOBs camping and watching them cut down a tree with a knife for the first time.  What a feeling you get hacking down a tree and processing firewood, then building a fire without matches.  Reminds me when I was 16, after a date with Stephen S.  I pulled into her driveway, I turned to say thanks before going around and opening her car door.  The next thing I remembered was her porch lights flashing, apparently 15 minutes had elapsed during the first make out session of my young life.  I open my eyes still in a daze, my windows were fogged up, she said thanks and ran inside, what a feeling.

Duracoat Continues

The worst thing about Duracoat is there are way too many colors, and sometimes they turn out way different than you thought.  I'm probably addicted to it and the downside is it takes a long time and if you screw up hours have been wasted, patience is needed.

I thought about trying to multicam a rifle but it looked way to difficult and my attempt on an M4 magazine failed horribly, the camo actually worked but it wasn't what I was looking for.

The good news I really enjoy painting things, that and my friends always come over and we hang out while we sand and paint.  They never seem to run out of stuff to paint w.hich is nice because I don't have that much stuff and painting magazines gets old.

Another problem with the colors is people online don't list what colors they used, so I try to match what I think and the color is wrong and sucks.  Tactical Woodland Brown sucks, it really isn't brown at all, so my 3 color digital camo became 2, Magpul FDE and Tactical FDE.

The snake skin effect turns out awesome, (Tactical FDE and Magpul OD Green)

If someone has an awesome brown send me the color, next coloring i'm buying is tactical coyote tan.

Juice Part 2

3 weeks since my Blendtec arrived, I bought mine from harvest essentials they offer the wild side container (larger 96oz) for $50 extra.  I bought this because I thought it would be nice, turned out that the regular size is way to small and I have never used it.  If I had to do it again I would pay the $40 for just the wild side size and pay the $50 extra for another one.  A 96oz container is essential to pack the blender full of food.

Ensure you pack the blender correctly, I didn't' the first time and my green drink was steaming and I thought the blendtec was a piece of crap.  If you read the manual it will tell you how to properly pack the blender.  I always add water at least 12 ounces, it makes life much easier.  Start with the hard fruit first, carrots, apples etc. then I add the green leafs then the fruit.  I add the powders in the middle and frozen blueberries last to ensure the drink is cold.  If you are used to juicing it will be thicker but if you drink protein shakes you won't notice a difference.

The blendtec is awesome, it keeps track of the number of blends mine is at 72.  The only problem is I can't put everything in that i want, so I have elected to have 2 per day.  I look at it as a system, just like a bug out bag, I can't cram everything I might ever need into a bag that will weigh 200lbs and expect to walk to California.  Like wise you can't put your days worth of veggies and fruit into one shake.

I have split my shakes into 2 groups.  The morning group is all about Kale, the afternoon shake is all about Spinach.  That way I can ensure to cram all the veggies and fruit I want into the 2 shakes, on a side note I really haven't noticed any loss of muscle mass, or real loss in strength.  One huge benefit I have noticed is the cleansing effect on my body, when I have bowel movements I can literally feel my intestines being cleaned out, awesome.  All the toxins in the body (fluoride in the water, pollution, radiation etc) are leaving.  It is a wild feeling and I pretty sure I'm not going to have colon cancer.

The Blendtec has huge upfront costs but if you search the house for lots of ebay and craigslist items, in a couple of weeks you'll have enough to buy the blender, that is what I did, Operation Victory Sweep.  Follow the Army Troop Leading Procedures and you will have success.  IT IS WORTH IT.

Using a blendtec is an art form and it will take you a week or 2 to really perfect the craft of loading the contents correctly to get the consistency that best suits your taste buds (recipe below video).

My recipes:

Kale Shake (morning, listed in the order I place them in the blendtec)
16oz water
2 carrots
1 apple

KydexRush

Guest post, it mentions me (which is cool) and it is pretty spot on.  For comments his email is linked at the bottom

The "Kydex"Rush of 2012

My office has had a pool on going as to when “the bigger” kydex makers will be forced to lower their prices (one already has).  The proverbial lid has been blown off kydex holsters; first came a review from Kitup.com and 101 Holsters burst on the scene charging $55 and not nickel and diming for customization.  PhillyEDCs “how to” video started a wave of people making their own holsters.

A quick search on youtube and you will find no less than 12 channels making kydex holsters this week.  Albeit they suck, but that is just a function of time and money, i.e. how much time do they have to practice before they run out of money?  Their problem is making a holster takes a long time especially to make it right; one can’t just put in an hour a day because one holster takes an hour, and only if one knows what they are doing and don’t screw up.  If you do screw it up, back to the beginning, time and money wasted.

The “Kydex Rush” has begun. Make no mistake; the top 3 companies are feeling the squeeze as is evident by their goon squads harassing various holster makers recently.  When you’re the top dog you don’t worry about young pups that is, until you start to see hundreds on the horizon.

Back to the time and money.  I find myself laughing out loud at the computer when the youtuber is describing his smooth draw, his little arms shake and sweat beads off his brow as he tries with all his might to draw the bluegun from the holster.  I’m sure if they stick with it, they will eventually get it right, but then the daunting task comes of breaking even.

Back to the office pool, before you add you dollar, consider 4 variables for your equation (weigh them as you see fit):
1.       % of market share lost
2.      Amount of time needed to produce a quality product
3.      Peoples love of labels
4.      Fan boys, which until this weekend I had no idea what a fan boy was.

#1.  This one is tricky, because we really have no idea how big the “biggs” are.  They could have 20 employees or they could have 4, they could make 1000 holsters per week or 100.  We can only guess, because people tend to make stuff up, lie, or exaggerate.  The trend seems to favor companies with a long wait.  A longer wait doesn’t necessarily mean a better product but that is the perception.  If they are a small shop and purport to be a large company they could withstand an onslaught of competition for quite a while, however if they grew to fast, cracks in the dam will overwhelm them and they will be forced to lower their prices.

#2.  Some of the videos I’ve watched on youtube are hilarious; the holster process is in a crazy order, ridiculous designs, impossible retention, and stupid amount of definition (only to lose the definition when they heat the holster up because they can’t get the bluegun out).  For most they will simply cut their losses and close shop. For others, they will make some extra money working weekends and have a nice holster every time they purchase a new gun.  One or two may actually sell more than 10 holsters a month to people other than themselves.  I still don’t understand why people put up a video of a holster they’ve made that looks awful.  There is no patience in the youtube world.  Rather than wait until they get feedback, actually test it and make it aesthetically pleasing, they rush it to market.  The results are typical, they look like some dude making a holster for the first time i.e. ugly.  When you go so far out of your way for originality, you end up with a hybrid of ridiculousness that looks like what you were not trying to copy in the first place.  The best are people that actually think theirs is original and blast others as copycats or try to patent their piece of kydex with holes cut into it.

#3.  This is the biggest wildcard. I had no idea just how cold blooded some people were, until people started committing murder over $200 shoes that cost $10 to make by child slaves in China.  I will never understand this behavior.  The backward logic is, X super hero uses Y, then if I use Y I’ll be X, wrong.  There is nothing magic about Kydex, it all goes back to time and money.  Material to make a kydex holster is about $10, so why pay $100 and wait 3 months when you can pay $50 and get it next week.  If you understand this logic then you are truly what monopolies hate, consumers with brains.  Competition is fantastic for the consumer, can you imagine how much a cell phone would cost if there was only Apple?

#4.  Defined by the urban dictionary:  A pathetic insult often used by fan boys themselves to try and put down people who don't like whatever it is they like.  Instead being happy that everyone gets to own a nice kydex holster, they only want themselves and their friends to own one.  They are part of a secret club and will give up their life to ensure no one else gets in.  Also interesting to note that fan boys are a huge proponent of “made in America”; of course this doesn’t translate to their personal lives when they log onto the internet with their Ipad and shop at Wal-Mart.  It is interesting how certain companies make a lot of money off people that feel better buying name brand stuff.  If you handed a fan boy two products without the names, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, of course they will swear on their mother’s grave they can.

More people making kydex holsters is a win for the consumer with lower prices, shorter wait times and better customization.  It is extremely cool that you can contact a holster maker and have them customize exactly what you want.  Never before has this been possible, the “Kydex” Rush of 2012 will be interesting to watch.  How long can the “bigs” survive with inflated prices and wait times, and how many new kydex makers will try to claim their piece of the kydex fortune?

JG

Duracoat Aftermath

You never really know how many friends you have until you start spraying Duracoat.  A normal Saturday can turn into an awesome Saturday with friends, firearms and Duracoat.

In all we painted about 20 things (pistols, rifles, knives. magazines and lights), are the perfect?  They were when we painted them but after a couple weeks of time on the shelf, a day of training and blemishes are apparent.  It could be that we didn't sand enough (bead blaster may cure it) or we didn't wait the recommended 4 weeks (we waited 2).  The point is I may have gotten mad if I paid $150 per pistol and it started to wear off (which it will anyway no matter what you do).  Since we painted them ourselves, it gives the pistol character.

I did purchase a upgraded air brush, figured I'd paint just about every firearm I ever buy and my friends pitched in.  Also bought some clear masking film to make some designs, the blue tape on blue tape method worked ok, but the film should work better.

Stay away from the named brand paints, the Magpul FDE is my favorite but the Trijicon and EOTech are shiny like finger nail polish.  I'm going to try some of the tactical colors next, but Magpul FDE is the staple for Flat Dark Earth.

Next Level of Juice

The next level is a blender that will blend it all up, not leaving anything to throw away.  Thus more food, more nutrients and less waste.

Enter the BlendTec or Vitamix.  Isn't competition great one company comes out with something awesome then another company comes out with a similar product but more awesome, but competitively priced with the less awesome product.  The vicious cycle continues forever until we the consumer win.

Downside they cost $400

Will they do the job?  If they can blend an IPAD they can definitely blend up kale.

Get on the Juice

30 days since new years, all the new faces at the gym determined to "get in shape" have given up and my workouts can continue as normal.  On to hippies; seems as the years go by everything they said is true, from foreign entanglements, non-GMO food, various powers of green plants, eating organic and Green Drink (or juicing).

If you try anything this year you must go to the store by a juicer ($50 at Walmart) a whole bunch of fresh fruit and vegetables and blam!  The first time I drank a super green drink my skin started to tingle and my body felt like someone had just jump started my battery.  It is hard to put the feeling into words, it was incredible.  I had a rush go through my body that I had never felt before, the only way to understand is to try it for yourself.

I'm 90 days in and I will never ever go with out green drink again; every morning it starts with green drink and sometimes a green drink smoothie around 2pm.  The good thing about juicing is you can taking anything and throw it in there.  I know you think it is going to taste awful but when you add apples or pineapple it taste awesome.

Important: find a glass or cup that is big enough to hold 32oz of liquid yet short enough to fit under the spout.  If you want a super super drink add super green powder but this will thicken the juice and is awesome but will nullify some of the sweet taste. Use the blender after adding super green powder.

My receipe:
2 apples
Kale (at least 3 large leafs)
Spinach 2-3 cups
2 stalks of celery
2 carrots
ginger
1 cucumber

J-Frames are Here

I haven't ever shot a revolver until a couple of weeks ago and they are awesome.  I had to have one, definitely a cool gun.

Duracoat, Do It

Blue tape, Q-Tips, Cotton balls
There are a ton of Duracoat videos on youtube, I have watched a lot of them.  If you continue to watch them you will have no idea just how awesome Duracoat is.  For months I sat on the sidelines with excuses like it takes to long and I don't have an air compressor, for 2012 make a goal to Duracoat something.

I had no idea just how incomplete my life has been up to now.  I am currently running out of stuff to Duracoat and running out of Duracoat.

Yes, there are professionals who will Duracoat your pistol and yes they charge a lot ($150 minimum) it is all about time, and it is time consuming, in a good way.  Prep takes a long time, and the longer you take the better off it will turn out.

Crunch the numbers:

 Pro:
-1 pistol $150 min

You
-EZ Kit $54.95 (I bought this and an extra color +$17.95)
-Air compressor $100 (go to Lowes 1.5gal tank)
-at least 4 pistol + magazines + holster + knife

Total <$300 although can you really count the air compressor? You can use it to pump up tires and clean off your keyboard etc.  Once you buy the air compressor it is done no more costs.

Colors: EO Tech Flat Dark Earth and Magpul Flat Dark Earth
If you are considering using Duracoat you know you will paint more than one pistol (knifes, holsters, remotes, magazines).

The real challenge is finding things to Duracoat and choosing the colors.

I pass along the following advice:
1. Wear a mask, spray outside or in the garage with the doors up
2. Make a plan; gather all items to duracoat in one central location
3.  Buy a bigger bottle to spray out of, the bottles that come with the EZ Kit barely hold 2TBSP of Duracoat which runs out fast.
4.  Order 10 free samples of the colors you are thinking about.  Lowery Weapons sends them out for free and you can see exactly what the color will look like.

Water or Coke

WATER

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (This likely applies to half the world population.)

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied (in a University of Washington study).

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8 to 10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

COKE

In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

Coke will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the "Hazardous Material" place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would YOU like a glass of water or Coke?

Buy 4 Nalgene bottles and a water filter.
